you, dave, and everyone he knows RSS

i am dave (E-M or L.F or FB). i am known to rock out on occasion, have a vast depth of knowledge about hockey, and am the proud bearer (barely) of a degree in political science. if you enjoy led zeppelin, craig finn, post-modernism, whiskey and good beer, have a nerd-like obsession with logical thought and laugh at things no one else really finds funny, we are probably compatible people and you will probably enjoy the blog.

Hey Red Wings remember when this goofy fuck didn’t do anything for us the last time we signed him to a year contract?  Good fucking job picking him up again.  I’m pissed.
he’s a bum.

One of the problems with the vast majority of sports journalism, whether in print, online, tv or radio is that too much coverage assumes that once a player has a good year or good run, he is automatically a star player to be reckoned with. Sure, some players legitimately are, but some also have flukishly good years and are never quite as good as a particular performance indicates.

Bertuzzi had only one 40-goal season, 2002-03 (hell, Glen Murray had a 40-goal season that year). He has had only one 20-goal season since. Isn’t it time that we stop looking at Bertuzzi as a star who hasn’t played up to potential for a variety of reasons over the last few years and start looking at him as an average player that happened to have a pretty good year once.
